M-A-M™: Message, Step 2 (Branding)

The most difficult part of the process of marketing (yourself, your product, your company, your ideas, etc.) is the concept of branding. Because it’s so difficult, most people skip to the “fun stuff”: the routes-to-market (RTM) which includes social media, advertising, and creative outlets. The risk of skipping this step (or abandoning it too early) is that if you don’t, someone else will do it for you – and it can be more difficult to undo someone else’s branding once it sticks. Of 400 million Facebook users you can’t seem to grab 40? Maybe it’s time you re-examine your assumptions and learn exactly what message you’re sending (or, more importantly, they’re receiving).
